Notes on Shih Tzu
The Shih Tzu (Pronounced Shid Zoo) is a breed which originated in Tibet.  The Shih Tzu is reported to be the oldest and smallest of the Tibetan holy dogs, it's lion-like look being associated with the Snowlion.  It is often called by "xi shi quan", based on the name of Xi Shi, regarded as the most beautiful woman of ancient China.
The Shih Tzu was bred to sit around the palace of the Emperor of China and bark when people or animals came near, this was to alert people to the presence of unwanted visitors.  It is believed that this breed was created by breeding the Pekingese with a Lhasa Apso.
The Shih Tzu is characterized by its long, flowing double coat.  The hair can be styled either in a short summer cut, or kept long.    They do shed small amounts of fur and are a hypoallergenic pet.  The Shedded hair are usually trapped in the Shih Tzu's dense undercoat.  It is VITAL that they are brushed often.
The best description I have heard of the Shih Tzu is the following Recipe:  "A dash of lion, several teaspoons of rabbit, a couple of ounces of cat, one part court jester, a dash of ballerina, a pinch of old man, a bit of begger, a tablespoon of monkey, one part baby seal, a dash of teddy bear, and the rest dogs of Tibetan and Chinese origin."

Shown below are pictures of the adult Shih tzus that I own.  They are my favorite breed.  They are affectionate and loving little balls of fur.

Bunny’s Blue Elisajane

Bunny’s Blue Elisajane is my very first Shih Tzu.  I fell in love with the breed.  She is such a good mother.  I kept back several females from her for breeding purposes.  She is solid white.  She has several Champions in her 5-Generation pedigree.  She is registered with AKC, ACA and APRI.

This little man is my pride and joy.  He is such a character.  He was suppose to be a chocolate that carried for blue.  He is a blue Shih tzu.  His registration papers say Liver.  He weighs 8.8 lbs,  He is AKC, and ACA registered.  I have included a scan of his pedigree.   There are several Champions in his blood line.

People don't realize how much a Shih Tzu will change in color as they get older.  They may wonder, where did all of the color go.  The Photo below of the 2 pups is a good example.  The Grey and white one is a baby photo of Dauphin's Blue Sing-Sing.  The Solid Colored one is a baby photo of Dauphin's Busy Blue Liam.  They both have changed in color as adults.
